I've always been fascinated by plain black and negative space work, and love Cowboy Bebop, so I sketched these out in my sketchbook to see if I could replicate the CD cover that has the four main characters on it. After outlining my sketch and shading it with Sharpie marker, I scanned it into Photoshop, put the color in the background, and used the Levels feature to make sure the black ink was solid black, and that no streak marks from the marker would show. Then I added the drawing of the iPod earphone cords on another layer. I originally plugged the finished images into four bookmark formats (which will be posted hopefully later on tonight). Then, taking props from the iPod ads on TV and in the magazines and the original picture that I looked at to create this piece I edited them together in these four corners in Photoshop to create the one seen here. Shadows dancing about + Cowboy Bebop = awesome. I could just really picture the characters in one of those commercials!
